Nike is continuing its tradition of sneakers that coincide with New York City's annual Puerto Rican Day parade with this upcoming pack of Air Max 1s.

Details are spare at the moment, but based on the images, the sneakers appear to reference flavors of "helados" (ice cream), with the blue and orange colorways possibly representing "coco" (coconut) and "parcha" (passion fruit), respectively. Both of the leaked colorways feature large jewel Swooshes, multi-material uppers that include both textiles and nubuck, and "Puerto Rico" heel embroidery.

Nike's history of Puerto Rican-themed sneakers dates back to 2000, when its first Air Force 1 dropped representing the island. From there, many different AF1 variants have released, and the series branched out to Air Maxes with 2021's Air Max 97.

While many of Nike's past Puerto Rico sneakers have been hits, the series hasn't been without controversy. In 2019, the shoes were canceled following backlash for their use of a Panamanian print. 2020's release, a reissue of the original Air Force 1, was also canceled, this time due to a manufacturing error that led to a reversed flag on the shoe's tongue tag.

According to Sole Retriever, the upcoming Air Max 1 pack will hit stores this June, and retail for $140. Check out a detailed look at the blue and orange colorways below.

UPDATE (06/05): Nike has confirmed that the orange-colored "Puerto Rico" Air Max 1 will be released tomorrow, June 6, via SNKRS for $140. Grab a closer look at the shoe below.
