Here's How to Buy the Air Jordan 39
Michael Jordan's latest signature shoe finally hits retail next week in the 'Sol' colorway.
The latest sneaker in Michael Jordan's signature Air Jordan line, the Air Jordan 39, is finally hitting retailers next week—starting with this "Sol" colorway, pictured here.
The Air Jordan 39 was first unveiled in April at a press event in New York City and shortly after, Orlando Magic All-Star forward and Jordan Brand athlete Paolo Banchero debuted them on-court when his team faced off against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of this year's NBA Playoffs.
At the event, Jordan Brand designers confirmed Jordan's cross-step served as the foundation for the shoe's overall design, and influences its flexible knitted upper. It's also worth mentioning that this "Sol" colorway, which translates to "foundation" in French, references the athlete's footwork on the court.
"Our values with the Air Jordan 39 came down to things like shape, proportion and stance," Joël Greenspan, the senior design director for Jordan Brand Performance Footwear, said. "We didn’t want to build a spaceship that was overtly aesthetic. In other words, we didn’t want to make the technology the visual focus of the design. Still, when athletes put on the shoe, we want them to instantly know they’re getting the most premium performance system possible."
Readers will be able to cop this inaugural Air Jordan 39 colorway starting on July 23 at Nike.com and at select Jordan Brand stockists for $200. Additional styles, seen in the image below, are scheduled to arrive in the coming months.
