Thanksgiving is all about showing gratitude and trying to help the community, and when you’re an entertainer or celebrity, sometimes you have the means to give a little bit more back than the average civilian.
Quavo, Fivio Foreign, Fat Joe, DaniLeigh, T.I., and more exemplified that this year, going above and beyond to show their communities why they’re thankful for them by hosting different charity events and turkey drives this holiday season.
Whether it was giving over 200 turkeys to the community, or distributing gift cards and money to families in need, several artists used their influence for good to try and make a difference. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, check out some examples of celebrities giving back this holiday season.
Quavo partnered with GoPuff and Feeding America to deliver turkeys to families in his native Atlanta in a drive-thru-styled charity event on Wednesday. The rapper also shared a video to his social media documenting the event.
“No Matter How Far U Go U Gotta Take It Back To Where It Begin,” the rapper wrote in the caption for his post. “Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 Thanks To My Partners @gopuff @feedingamerica For Making This A Successful Day On The Nawf!!”
Quavo also used an unreleased song as the backdrop for the montage he posted. Fans also took some flicks with the Atlanta rapper during the drive.
On Wednesday, T.I.’s Harris Community Works hosted its 16th annual turkey giveaway and donated over 1,000 turkeys and produce to the families and seniors in Atlanta’s Westside community. Other partners and contributors for the event included Papa Johns, Kroger, Humana, Chick-fil-A, actor DC Youngfly, and more.
“Such a honor & a blessing to do for the community that has been there for me since the beginning… & even doper to do it with fellow natives,” Tip shared to his Instagram, followed by thanking everyone who was involved including his wife, children, aunts, uncles, and more.
Fat Joe and Krasdale Foods teamed up on Thanksgiving eve to give away 3,000 grocery bags filled with over $36,000 worth of food at three of the rapper’s sneaker and apparel stores, UP NYC.
Joe was joined by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Angie Martinez, and more to help with the giveaway. Included in each bag were canned goods along with other groceries to help the families.
“We’re investing in the community to bring back businesses [and make it] look like it’s 5th avenue in the middle of the Bronx across from the projects… we’re passing on the theory that you don’t have to make it out of the hood and not come back,” Joe said when talking about the event and why he wanted to do it in his native Bronx specifically. “You can come back and invest in the community to take care of people.”
Joe also stayed in the giving spirit later on Thanksgiving by sharing a verse from a young Palestinian artist named MC Abdul.
Fivio Foreign is an artist who is known for giving back to his community, and this Thanksgiving the Brooklyn drill rapper’s charity organization Foreignside Foundation and Million Dollar Drive-By showed love to the city by teaming up with Children of Promise NYC to help feed the kids that were a part of the program.
Fivio was joined by Dream Doll to help with the event as well. Children of Promise NYC is a non-profit organization that provides support, guidance, and resources to children with incarcerated parents. Fivio and Dream Doll helped prepare food for the kids and then served it to them on Tuesday. Daniel’s Leather was also a part of the action and helped Fivio donate 100 jackets to the children.
Kodak Black has been a part of several different charitable endeavors to help Florida and the projects he grew up in, and this holiday season the rapper and his team gave thousands of turkeys across the state.
According to a report from TMZ, Kodak reportedly spent an estimated $14,500 on more than 5,000 turkeys for this holiday season. His team then took the turkeys and distribute them across Florida and hit multiple areas including Delray Beach, Pompano Beach, North Miami Beach, and Fort Lauderdale.
Due to legal battles he’s still undergoing, Kodak couldn’t take part in the charity in-person, but his lawyer, Bradford Conway, shared how much the “Big Ol’ Turkey Giveaway” means to the rapper.
“I know he wishes he could have been there, but he sends all his well wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving,” Cohen explained in an Instagram post. “He continues to provide help for needy families all the while getting himself healthy.”
DaniLeigh shared on her Instagram story that she would be giving out gift cards to mothers this year in an effort to support them during the holidays.
“Ok Mamas I wish I could help all of U… I picked out a lot of ladies and I hope that what I send U helps out,” the artist shared to her social media. Leigh then shared a boomerang of the gift cards she had lined up to send out to the moms.
DaBaby returned to his hometown of Charlotte to give away 100 gift cards to the community.
The rapper also paid for the Thanksgiving meals of different families in the city.
Quality Control and Goodr teamed up this week to give away 250 turkeys to families in need. The two businesses did so via a Thanksgiving-themed grocery pop-up market at Welcome All Park in Atlanta’s metro area.
QC shared some footage from the event on their social media.
“We are grateful to the heads of Quality Control for their resolution in giving back to their community,” Goodr CEO Jasmine Crowe said. “It is an honor to team up with such a household name and relieve some of the financial burden people are currently faced with.”
“God gives us blessings and it’s important to share that energy of helping folks. Giving back to our community is the least we can do.” Quality Control CEO Pierre “P” Thomas added.
Bobby Shmurda helped distribute 300 turkeys at the Marlboro Houses this Wednesday, TMZ reports. Bobby took photos with volunteers over the course of a few hours.
He then spoke to troubled teens in Ridgewood, Queens, where he was joined by Rowdy Rebel. Per TMZ, Bobby made it all happen by reaching out to Maurice Ballard, who’s behind the nonprofit Game of Life.
