Normally with masking tape, I have a lot of trouble keeping it stuck to the surface I want, and even worse, the rips in strips when I want to remove it. This product is both adequately adhesive, but also made of a strong material so it will come off as full strips.
I'll start with the good, and it is an awesome good...I applied this General Purpose Tape to ceramic tiles to prevent the resin coating from sticking to the edges and bottom, and it does the job perfect! The resin runs right off and barely sticks to the tape. Only when I let the resin dry too long before removing the tape have I experienced issues.
Having said that, I find that it has poor adhesive qualities. It does not stick to the edges or the bottom of the tiles with enough strength to keep paint, alcohol inks, or resin from seeping under the tape. I always wear gloves and I clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and let it dry before applying the tape to ensure the surface is free of oils and dirt. So, I end up using a secondary tape made by a different brand that has a stronger adhesive to prevent seepage. I then use the Duck brand over top to keep the resin from sticking where I do not want it.
The fact that it is easily removed or repositioned is probably good for some applications, but for use with any liquid where a crisp line and no seepage is wanted, this is not the best option. However, if you want to prevent something such as resin from sticking to your surface...then this is a great option.
I recommend this tape for some projects, but it should not be classified as a "general purpose".
have purchased this several times in the past year and each and every time I am extremely disappointed. It does not stick to anything. Even the slightest moisture causes it to lift off. I called Duck brand corporate office who told me that if tape is stored for long time in the warehouse it loses its adhesiveness. Don't know what the real cause is or who to believe. Do not recommend this brand. I also tried the 1.88 inch wide Duck brand tape which is only slightly better but still not great.
THIS GENERAL PURPOSE, CHINA MADE QUACK TAPE IS NO GOOD FOR PAINT MASKING. AS OTHERS HAVE INDICATED, THE ADHESION IS POOR. APPLIED TAPE BEFORE LUNCH ALONG CLEAN, SANDED, ROUND EDGES OF 3/4" THICK PLYWOOD. CAME BACK AFTER LUNCH AND THE TAPE WAS LOOSE IN SEVERAL PLACES. AFTER PRESSING TAPE TO ADHERE AGAIN, I STARTED TO PAINT. WHILE PAINTING, THE TAPE CAME LOOSE. MY MASKED EDGES WERE RUINED. RETURNING THIS TAPE FOR OTHER BRAND THAT I KNOW STICKS WELL. DO NOT USE THIS QUACK MASKING TAPE UNLESS YOU WANT POOR ADHESION.
I used this to mask off part of a camper, outside on a 65 degree day. I put this tape on, painted the area in 2 coats, and removed the tape. The tape was on the camper for about 30 minutes. When I took the tape off, it left behind a bunch of adhesive on a surface I had already prepared to paint next. Now I have to remove adhesive for a couple hours before I can go on. Very frustrating.
